The Naked and the Nude

Danny Eastwood uses the body and water to blur the lines of perception

Jul 24, 2014 | By Staff Writer

Many artists have explored the naked human body in all its beauty and flaws. Sydney based photographer Danny Eastwood’s series The Naked and the Nude utilizes water as a medium to question the issue of perception. In each photo, the body is positioned in the water, some parts on show, and some parts obscured from view. We never see a full picture of the body, left to wonder about the parts that we cannot see and to attempt to fill in the rough outlines. An extension of an earlier body of work ‘Surface Tension’, the series plays with water, reflections and refraction to ‘blur the lines of perception’.
