The Bouncers of Fashion Week

Barbara Anastacio photographs the often unacknowledged bouncers of London, New York, Milan and Paris

Beneath the gloss and glam of fashion week lie the typically unacknowledged black-suited bouncers of Paris, Milan, New York and London. In between snapping shots of shows including Saint Laurent Paris and Diane Von Furstenberg, T magazine photographer Barbara Anastacio covertly observed the black suited men through her camera lens. The pictures show the stoic figures of the bouncers amidst glammed-up models and the frenzy of fashion week. The time spent observing these men afforded her perspective on the bouncers in different countries. “If I were to generalize completely, I would say Paris has the most handsome; New York the biggest; Milan the toughest—and London the most polite.” Asked why she chose to photograph bouncers, Anastacio says “Although acting as monuments to discipline and order, the bouncers also hold the promise of imminent mayhem…They are models on their own catwalk. Plus they always have the best fitted suits.” (via Nowness)
