Self-portraits of Shredded Poetry

Jamie Poole uses deconstructed printed poems to create large scale self-portraits

Mar 18, 2014 | By Staff Writer

Artist Jamie Poole’s self-portrait is a beguiling mix of topography, collage and portraiture. Poole was interested in ‘deconstructing printed poems into individual words and using the text to create large scale portraits.’ Using shredded pieces of poetry, he creates large scale self-portraits with excruciating detail, paying attention to shadows, line and words. The poems and words he obtains are from a book of love letters that Poole and his wife write to each other. He experiments with colour, shade and text size in order to attain the realistic aesthetic of his self-portraits. (via Colossal)
