Sculptures by Yoshitoshi Kanemaki
Stunning life-sized figurative wooden sculptures
Talented Japanese sculptor Yoshitoshi Kanemaki creates these unusual sculptures out of large blocks of camphor wood. These surreal sculptures involve two or more characters merged into one form. The haunting sculpture of the skeleton merged with scrawny human bodies could be interpreted as a commentary on mortality. His other sculptures involve bodies with different faces and multiple body parts, which are part of the artist’s exploration of multiple personalities within an individual. Kanemaki painstakingly carved these figures and paints them with precision, bringing this imagery to life.
