Poussières d’étoiles

Ludovic Florent captures the dancer’s body in its most organic form

It was Martha Graham who said ‘The body says what words cannot.’ The dancer’s body has long been a site of awe and intrigue. It has fascinated audiences in a way that text or music cannot. Performances are often accompanied by whispers of ‘… but how do they do that?!’  Ludovic Florent’s series “Poussières d’étoiles” captures the body in its most organic form. Having nude dancers, some barefoot, some in pointe shoes, dance amidst clouds of dust, he sheds new perspectives on the body. He photographs sinewy muscles, endless limbs and most importantly, pure abandon. Florent himself remarks “Every carnal envelope hides a soul that is both sensitive and flamboyant.’ With nothing to hide behind, the images of nude dancers lays bare the dancer’s body in its possibilities, perfections and flaws.
