Moving On

A music video made with yarn

May 17, 2014 | By Staff Writer

BAFTA nominated writer, director and animator Ainslie Henderson has created an incredibly emotional and immersive video to accompany ‘Moving On’, the latest single from La Petite Mort by British band James. The video uses yellow yarn to tell of death, life, and loss. With no people, facial expressions or words, the silent yarn dolls say more than expected about the nature of moving on and letting go. The pain in attempting to let go of something is told simply. As someone pulls on the string, the yarn doll slowly comes apart, losing first its legs then its arms, slowly fading into nothing. A second doll stands by trying desperately to yank on the yarn to stop and futilely attempts to reconstruct the loose yarn into what they were before. The video may be simple, but it hits hard. The message of moving on transcends.
