Lost Tracks Of Time by Matthew Malkiewicz
Self-Taught photographer captures magical scenes of vintage trains
Engineer and self-taught photographer Matthew Malkiewicz has taken a stunning series of photographs featuring vintage trains rolling down the tracks with huge clouds of smoke emerging from it through the fog. Unlike those used to commute in our modern world, these trains are not sleek and shiny. However, they possess a mystical charm and haunting presence . Malkiewicz’s obsession with vintage trains started as a child where he had a vintage model set us in his basement when he received his first camera. Now, he plans his travels around photographing such trains. In each photograph, he captures the motion and presence of each train by making the focus of the picture the beautiful, undulating clouds of smoke chugged from the engine. The fog and smoke emerging from the train and filling the landscape truly brings to life both the train and it’s surroundings.
Malkiewicz explains,“My passion gravitates to the machines of yesteryear, fire breathing monsters that seem to be alive whether you have your hand against the polished steel or you are two bluffs away looking across acres of prairie grass. I envision how it must have been back in the day and try to create photographs as timeless as possible to depict what I consider a vibrantly better and sadly vanished time.”
