If I Had Known My Mother Back Then
Danielle Delph inserts herself into her Mother’s old photographs
We’ve all wondered what it must have been like growing up during our parents time. And we’ve all imagined how our parents were like in their younger years. Oregan-based art director Danielle Delph imagines what it must have been like to be her mother’s childhood friend in her recent photo series titled If I Had Know My Mother Back Then. To visualize this, Delph edits images of herself into old snapshots from her mother’s childhood, blending herself seamlessly alongside the mother. Applying her impeccable photoshop skills, she manages to blend the images such that it would convince a viewer that these are old childhood photos of two girls playing together. Although the thought of being the same age of your mother is somewhat strange and haunting, Delph presents this series as a heartwarming homage to her mother- whom she shares a timeless friendship with.
She explains, “I’ve always wondered if my mom and I would have been friends had we grown up together…Would we be in the same classes? Would we have the same sense of humor? Would people tell us we’re inseparable? After seeing myself in her childhood photos, I’m pretty sure we would have been great friends.” Visit Danielle Delph’s website to see more of her other works.
