Fingerprint Drawings by Nicolas Jolly
Artist uses only his fingerprints to create a series of eerie landscape scenes
French artist Nicolas Jolly pieces together thousands upon thousands of his fingerprints to form sinister-looking landscape scenes. Jolly’s unjolly landscape scenes take inspiration from the early works of the symbolist movement. By altering the width and length of his finger markings, he is able to simulate shadows, light and shape. Working only with black ink allows him to bring emotion to the scene by increasing the set of chiaroscuro. The images created by Jolly seem whole with a great sense of texture when viewed from a distance. He focuses on the contrast between the white and black in his drawings to bring them to life.
Nicolas Jolly has definitely left an impression on us all.
