Before and After Jogging

Sacha Goldberger captures joggers in all their glory

Let’s be honest- we don’t quite look our best when were exercising. I couldn’t care for putting on make up or fixing my hair when I’m panting and sweating profusely during my daily jog. Indeed, exercising can fatigue us to a point that we are able to shed self- consciousness. Photographer Sacha Goldberger explores this natural, untouched, and somewhat primal, state that we experience when exercising in her recent photography project.

Last year, French photographer Sacha Goldberger assembled a team to help him create an outdoor studio in a park located near Paris. He would stop joggers and request that they sprint before immediately posing for him in front of a camera. Sweaty and discoloured, these willing joggers expressed fatigue on their faces. Some were so tired and out of breathe that they were unable to look straight into the lens for the portrait. Goldberger asked the same joggers to return to his professional studio a week later for a photo shoot, of which the participants were dressed smart and put together. The diversity of his subjects from various demographics also make for an interesting project. He explains his motivations for this photography project: “I wanted to show the difference between our natural and brute side versus how we represent ourselves to society . The difference was very surprising.” Visit Sacha Goldberger’s Website to see more of his experimental photography projects.
