ART REPUBLIK ISSUE 3: Art & Religion
Magazine’s latest edition takes a leap of faith into a world that sits on a greater plane
HEAVEN SENT
Following this quarter’s theme, the latest issue of ART REPUBLIK explores the role of religion in Art over centuries. Also included in this divinely inspired issue is a further exploration into the vast world of contemporary arts and culture. As such, the issue is lined-up with influential icons and culture-makers: Francois Curiel, President of Christie’s Asia; legendary photographer, Annie Leibovitz; the most visible members of Russian protest-art collective Pussy Riot, Nadya Tolokonnikova and Masha Alekhina feat. Vladimir Putin; French photographer-painter duo, Pierre et Gilles; and more.
“But really, art is religion. The most profound similarity would be that they are both bridges from the here and now, to what is beyond. They also both evoke similar engagements, are thought-provoking, they tell stories of something or somewhere greater, and they require a certain leap of faith,” says Marc Wong, Managing Editor of ART REPUBLIK.
The issue also offers an update on art and emerging artists in Asia. From venturing into Indonesia to meet their most noteworthy art collectors and emerging artists, to reviewing the recent Art Basel fair in Hong Kong and picking out favorite works and works/exhibits. It also tackles the burning question: Are auction houses displacing galleries?
Mr. Olivier Burlot, CEO & Publisher at Heart Media, comments: “Now into our third issue, ART REPUBLIK comes of age, as the team continues to explore the extent of how art has influenced various facets of our lives. Readers will be presented with rich-cultural and artistic depictions of both Asian and Western religions reflected throughout key eras in history. Also in this issue, we preview a select list of upcoming art fairs that ART REPUBLIK will be supporting.”
