Alienation by Anelia Loubser
Artist transforms humans into alien-looking creatures by flipping their faces upside down
‘if you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change‘- Wayne Dyer
‘Alienation’ warps the perception of the human face by flipping it upside down, achieving weird and wonderful reinterpretations of the subject’s features. Cape Town based photographer Anelia Loubster has completed a series of portraits that examine alienation and perspectives. Applying the aforementioned alienation technique, Loubser flips faces upside down, revealing a peculiar universe of oddly proportioned people. Her subjects appear martian-like with their whisker eyebrows, distorted nosed and wrinkled foreheads resembling wry smiles. Loubser aims to allow the viewers to ‘be introduced to the alienated being inside us all, where disconcerting beauty emerges. the work is on the one hand strangely aesthetic, on the other hand mysteriously eerie.’
