Mickael Jou photography series captures ballet mid-move

Mar 06, 2015 | By Staff Writer

French-American photographer Mickael Jou has taken a series that combines his two loves- photography and dance. His fascinating series captures the photographer performing impressive dance moves. What makes this project even more stunning is the fact that he situates these dancers in unexpected environments. Using common locations, such as a supermarket, park and museum hallway, as his composition’s backdrop, jou is caught mid-move as the focal point in each scenerio. In some, he defies gravity and is caught mid-move, floating effortlessly in the space. Other times, he is seen dramatically interacting with his surroundings.

“With his perfectly-pointed toes and elegantly-outstretched arms, the series takes a rare look at the graceful steps and paces frozen in a frame.”
