Do you guys know CBC Television Show called FORTUNE HUNTERS (which is all about Canadian entrepreneurs) ?

They’ve just launched their second season, and you should watch their upcoming luxury-themed episode.

They’re featuring two stories : one about an entrepreneur who is starting up a caviar business and the other one is about an entrepreneur that has made it big with a jet-sharing company.

The whole episode is streamed on their website.

ABOUT THE LUXURY EPISODE (news release from CBC)

While newspaper headlines scream of foreclosures and bailouts, many companies selling the good life seem to be weathering the storm.

That’s not to say the Luxury industry is impervious to the economic downturn.

While the luxury industry as a whole posted gains of more than 8 per cent in 2008, the industry is expected to grow at just two percent in 2009. Still, growth of any kind these days is nothing to scoff at.

Generally speaking, the luxury business stays strong in a recession.

We scoured the country, searching for fortune hunters looking to live in the lap of luxury.

In Vancouver, we found Devon and Judy brooks, along with partner Val Litwin, and ‘Blo Me Dry’ – a salon that specializes in one thing only – blowdrys. They make house calls and office calls as well. A thirty-dollar treat!

In Toronto, we spotted Michael Reddy and Mark Mincer and their Condo Garage – it’s for people who need extra space to store their fabulous vehicles.

Our Fortune Hunter was in New Brunswick – we’re diving deep into the story of a Romanian immigrant – Cornel Ceapa – and his ambitious plan to build an empire – selling Canadian caviar.

Armed with a PhD in fishery engineering and an ambitious dream, Cornel opened Acadian Sturgeon and Caviar, one of the first sustainable sturgeon fish farms in the country.

Pound for pound, caviar is one of the world’s most expensive delicacies, and Canadian caviar can sell for up to $2500 per kilo.

With prices like that, Cornel expects to net a huge profit. But Cornel’s not swimming in cash yet. Cornel needs to double sales or he’ll be on the hook for $250,000 of loans to the government. Can Cornel meet the challenge – or will his company go belly up?

Our My First Million story is about Judson Macor. In 1999, Judson launched AirSprint Inc., a jet-sharing company.

It wasn’t an easy liftoff – the company went four months without a sale. But demand for the service, and the luxury, is high. Today, AirSprint has clients across the country and sales have gone up to $40 million a year.
