TOP 10 most expensive US and UK travel destinations

According to a survey conducted by TravelMag.com, topping the list of the most expensive summer hotspots this year is Montauk on Long Island.

A survey of the most expensive travel destinations in the US this summer shows that tourists will be shelling out the most for their accommodations in quaint, scenic retreats across New England and New York State.

According to a survey conducted by TravelMag.com, topping the list of the most expensive summer hotspots this year is Montauk on Long Island, a beach resort that’s famous for its saltwater fishing and is home to charming bed and breakfasts and New York’s first lighthouse.

For the ranking, researchers looked at the cheapest available room rates at centrally located hotels and inns with a minimum three-star rating during the month of August.

With an average of $316 for its least expensive double room, Montauk took the top spot, followed by Saratoga Springs, NY at $312, and Martha’s Vineyard, MA ($284).

Meanwhile, a similar ranking released by Cheaprooms.co.uk also ranks the most expensive destinations in the UK this summer, and found that Edinburgh, Scotland will set tourists back the most, as they pay an average of £134 ($210 USD) a night.
