A rare Matchbox toy fetched a record £10,200 ($15.000) at an auction in Harrogate. The sale was held at the Matchbox Club’s 25th convention.

The price fetched by the Lesney dumper truck, produced in 1955, beat the previous record of £7,500 for a Matchbox toy.

The model was one of six prototypes that never went into production as the company opted for a smaller version.

It is believed the one sold in Harrogate last Friday is the only one to survive.

Elderly Mr Yoshise, its previous owner, had decided it was time to pass his prized asset on to a younger collector.
