McLaren Automotive has launched the second model in the MP4-12C family: the stunning new 12C Spider.

The convertible supercar comes just one year after the launch of the hard-top MP4-12C and gets all the latest features introduced with the 2013 update.

The 12C Spider is equipped with a 616-horsepower 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbo engine linked to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

McLaren calls the car’s roof system the ‘Retractable Hard Top’ and has designed it so that it can be operated at speeds of up to 19 mph. McLaren says it takes less than 17 seconds to lower the roof.

It has a top speed of 204 mph and sprints from zero to 62 mph in 3.1 seconds.

The global unveiling of the 2013 McLaren MP4-12C Spider will take place in the U.S. on August 17 during the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
