The Louis Vuitton auction, held last night at Sotheby’s on New Bond Street, saw seven special orders sold for a total of £495,000 in aid of the Red Cross.
Louis Vuitton offered six masters of savoir-faire the opportunity to create a unique special order that embodies their expertise in their respective professions.
Working with the brand’s iconic leather workshop in Asnières, just outside Paris, celebrity chef Ferran Adrià , photographer Annie Leibovitz, musician Gustavo Santaolalla, painter Damien Hirst, fashion designer and Louis Vuitton’s creative director Marc Jacobs, and family heir Patrick-Louis Vuitton all designed leather trunks and bags in line with the label’s aesthetics.
Leibovitz chose to create a practical leather backpack, while Hirst designed a black trunk and Jacobs opted for a dog carrier (the designer owns two bull terriers).
To commemorate the event, Louis Vuitton has crafted a limited edition Red Cross medical trunk.
