Tokyo Tower was hailed as a stunning symbol of Japan’s recovery from the devastation of World War II when it opened on December 23, 1958.
Though much has changed in the last 50 years, Tokyo Tower, named the 20th tallest tower in the world, still faithfully performs its original prime function of beaming telecommunication signals across Japan’s largest city.
This year, the Tokyo Tower celebrates its 50th anniversary; to commemorate this momentous occasion, jeweler Ginza Tanaka has created a miniature 24-carat replica called the Golden Tokyo Tower.
The Golden Tokyo Tower is just 66 centimeters tall, but it contains all of the details from the full-sized Tokyo Tower, including the four-story ‘Foot Town’ plaza at the building’s base.
The Golden Tokyo Tower weighs in at about 5 kilograms and will set you back just over 50 million yen (about $510,000). However, there is no information about how many replicas of the monumental architecture have been made.
The real Tokyo Tower stands 333 metres (1,000 feet) tall, just a few feet higher than Paris’ Eiffel Tower and quite a few tons lighter thanks to steel construction – Source: trendhunter Via: inventorspot
