Architecture firm goCstudio is planning to launch a floating sauna on Lake Washington, Seattle, later this year.
The WA Sauna, a self-styled ‘urban escape’, will be constructed from 55 gallon floatation barrels held in place by an aluminum frame and most likely anchored during the day. The sauna will be accessed by kayak.
The miniature resort will offer an 8 x 8 foot sauna in addition to a platform area where visitors can relax. The structure will float in Union Bay, positioned to capture the sun and maximize views of the city and the mountains.
“We thought it would be interesting to propose a floating sauna for Seattle, a city surrounded by water,” explained architect and co-founder of goCstudios Aimée O’Carroll. “The purpose of the sauna is to create a place of refuge for locals, to give them a new perspective on their city and provide a space to relax, reflect and reinvigorate out on the water.”
In order to undertake the project, goCstudio needs to raise US$15,000 via a Kickstarter campaign, which is due to launch within a few weeks.
