Bentley could add an SUV to its lineup. The automaker is said to have discussed plans for a sports-utility vehicle with Volkswagen, its parent company.
Such a model would satisfy appetite for luxury models, reports Automotive News.
An analyst suggested that an SUV bearing the famous Bentley badge may be able to fetch in excess of €120,000, such is the demand among drivers.
Bentley could well be eyeing a gap in the Chinese market, where the popularity of the brand’s handmade €154,000 Continental GT and €250,000 Mulsanne helped it to post a 20 percent rise in sales during the first half of this year.
Chinese consumers face a long wait list for luxury SUVs made by other automakers, such as an average of 15 months for the Porsche Cayenne, the reports states.
Other options include the BMW X-class line of SUVs, the new fuel-efficient Mercedes-Benz M-Class and the Audi Q3.
New and refreshed models from the big German automakers, as well as rivals such as Lexus and Infiniti, are likely to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which runs September 15-25.
