Foundation Louis Vuitton “Coming of Age” In Paris
The museum pays tribute to Virgil Abloh with an inventive and expanded version of the exhibition he originally staged in 2019.
The Foundation Louis Vuitton unveiled “Coming of Age” earlier this month on 8 April in Paris, France. The exhibition is in loving memory and honour of the late Virgil Abloh, and an extension of the original global “Coming of Age”. Situated in the Frank Gehry-designed space, the exhibition will be up for two weeks from 13 April.
In 2019, the former artistic director of Louis Vuitton curated a group exhibition titled “Coming of Age” in Los Angeles, California, in tandem with Little Big Man Gallery. The visionary exhibition focused on “the concept, diversities and complexities of male youth and boyhood — traversing class, race, social economics, subcultures, isolation, and camaraderie”.

Representing a physical embodiment and homage to Virgil Ablohs’s world, the Paris exhibition reimagines and expands on the original presentation and its narrative. As a beautiful tribute to the legendary hands-on creator, “Coming of Age” encourages activities and participation and fuses physical events with digital activations.
Visitors can expect to be immersed and participate alongside artists, photographers, musicians, directors and animators. The result illustrates Virgil Abloh’s mission and achievement to democratise the dream personified by Louis Vuitton — offering a domain open to the aspirations of people from all walks of life.
The riveting exhibition has travelled to several cities, namely Paris, Milan, Munich, Beijing, Tokyo and Seoul. Students, artists and local communities across the globe were able to explore their creative sides. A do-it-yourself ‘copy centre’ was accessible to build and create zines with favourite artworks from the exhibition.
“Coming of Age” is open to the public and free of charge, running from 13 to 27 April 2022. Register for your admission tickets at foundationlouisvuitton.fr.
