French Photographer Florian Beaudenon explores the notion of the private vs. public self in his recent photography series. The project, titled Instant Life, shows the bird’s eye view of men and women in the comforts of their home.  As if the photographer’s intrusion is unknown to them, people, their belongings and their surroundings are featured. Each photograph is unique with the surroundings of the subjects reflecting the everyday behavior of a person in his or her private space. Mundane activities such as trying multiple pairs of shoes, reading a book and even taking a bath are captured in Beaudenon’s voyeuristic series, giving us insight into the characters (whose faces are not shown). 

The artist explains, “We must enjoy of every moment. The Instant Life project was created after this idea. Photography intruding, not without a bit of voyeurism, on the life of unknown persons. They have agreed to share a hobby, a moment of intimacy that is important to them and in which everyone can recognize himself.” Though fascinating, there is uneasiness in the anonymity of the random subjects and that they could look up anytime to catch us peaking in on them during their private scenes.
