Armed with one camera and boundless imagination, seven artists shot and presented 21 stunning photographs and artwork at the Leica X-hibition. The seven artists in question – Bu Shukun, Rosalynn Tay, Alwyn Loh, Janice Wong, Theseus Chan, Joan Leong and David Teo – captured unforgettable memories with the new Leica-X, each vastly different. We zoom in on one Leica maestro in particular here, Rosalynn Tay.

Rosalynn Tay put her experience of street photography to good use, bringing to life untouched cultures of the world. For the exhibition, she traveled to parts unknown, documenting genuine interactions in countries marred by poverty and environmental woes, such as Ethiopia (the subject of her solo show, which also features work shot on a Leica, this time the Leica-M, as seen below), Cuba and Papua New Guinea.

“I love shooting the street and people because I am curious and inquisitive. I love to immerse, see and engage them. I want to figure out how things work and relate to each other. It is through constant observation, listening and questioning, that ideas are born,” said the photographer.

Tay, who began her foray into photography two years ago after purchasing her first Leica M240 with a 35mm Summilux lens, has always wanted to make a difference to the world by documenting the colorful cultures of people and unpredictability of Mother Nature. “I derive a lot of joy by capturing their images and immortalizing them in my photographs,” she said.
